Exxaro Matla Coal brings Hope Through Eye Testing Initiative in Emalahleni

Vision for Change NPO, in partnership with Exxaro Matla Coal, successfully hosted an eye testing initiative in Emalahleni aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community — particularly people living with albinism.

The initiative forms part of an ongoing collaboration between Vision for Change, Exxaro Matla Coal, Melokuhle Foundation, and Emalahleni Local Municipality, all working together to improve access to essential eye care services.

People living with albinism often face serious visual challenges due to light sensitivity, reduced visual acuity, and other eye-related conditions.

Recognizing this need, the partners came together to provide professional eye testing, assessments, and support to ensure better quality of life for beneficiaries.

This programme marks a continuation of the partnership with Melokuhle Foundation, an organization known for advocating and supporting people living with albinism. Their involvement ensured that those most in need were identified and given priority access to services.

Exxaro Matla Coal emphasized that this initiative is very close to their heart, as part of their broader commitment to giving back to communities surrounding their operations. Supporting people living with disabilities remains a key pillar of their social responsibility programmes.

Emalahleni Local Municipality also welcomed the initiative, acknowledging that access to eye care remains limited for many residents, particularly those living with disabilities. The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to supporting programmes that improve community wellbeing.

The event not only addressed immediate eye care needs but also raised awareness about the challenges faced by people living with albinism, promoting inclusion, understanding, and support within the community.
